Nosferatu 2025 (8/10)

Image
"Nosferatu" is a 2024 American Gothic horror film directed by Robert Eggers - the same mad genius who directed "The VVitch" and "The Lighthouse." Both are crazy, artsy films that I highly recommend. This one is, of course, a modern remake of the 1922 silent film, " Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror " by Henryk Galeen. And obviously, this whole story is "heavily inspired" by the original 1897 story by Bram Stoker, " Dracula ."      As far as trigger warnings, this one has a couple: Violence and gore are pretty prevalent, dude bites the head off of a bird. Some nudity, though I would say it is very tasteful and artistic rather than vulgar. "Pedicide" aka the murder of children. Some plague, sickness. And a lot of sexual themes throughout.      Also just a good note that nothing bad happens to the cat.     Honestly some other people's reviews thought the film was just disgusting and I didn't think it was tha...

The Descent (5/10)

Image
"The Descent" is a 2005 British horror film about 6 women who go exploring a cave as a fun "girls trip" experience. Already I hate it, because cave exploration - especially cave DIVING - sounds like an absolute nightmare to me. So right off the bat, as a premise for a horror film, "The Descent" is coming in hot, as they say. Claustrophobia with numerous tight spaces, darkness, helplessness, being trapped miles beneath the earth, being able to fall to your death at any moment over perilous ravines. It's packed full of horrifying concepts so that's obviously "good film" points in its favor.     But you may have noticed right in the title that I only gave it a 5 out of a ten. Even with all of that wonderful horror movie premise, it did some things I didn't exactly love as a viewer of films. So here I go with explaining why: *** *** SPOILER WARNING *** ***     Okay so there's an even deeper level of plot that I didn't spoil e...

FLOW (8/10)

Image
"Flow" is a 2024 animated film about a post-apocalyptic world where humans are nowhere to be found. Remnants of their existence remain in the form of abandoned homes, massive statues, and cryptic temples with strange architecture. Still there are signs of life in the flourishing forests and the multiple different species of animals that are let loose on the world. Some of them are wild species and have always been on their own but multiple creatures certainly seem as if they were abandoned pets.      The main cast consists of a black cat, a golden retriever, a ring-tailed lemur, a capybara, and a secretary bird.      The black cat is especially precious and so very expressive with its golden eyes. The animals require the tiniest suspension of disbelief in how they interact with each other and understand the world around them because they exhibit more than the average animal's level of communicative ability and intelligence. But that alm...
